John Wesley Fallas came here from New York in 1837. Wanting to establish a settlement, he wrote home, insisting that his family come join him on his new land. His brother, Dr. Silas Fallas, and uncle, Arad Melvin, agreed. It wasn’t until John Wesley returned to New York to marry his wife Pheobe Brown in 1842 that the rest of the Fallas and the Brown Family moved to as well to what would later be known as Fallasburg. John, Silas, and Arad built the Fallas House in 1842. John and Phoebe lived in this house their entire lives. The Fallas House now serves as one of the Fallasburg Historical Society’s museums. This location is also listed on the Michigan Register of Historic Places.
